Using Camcorders to get poses
I've read that many illustrators use a shot of themselves to get a pose right. In my day job, I use several video capture programs. As such, I've found that grabbing frames or stills from a video feed allows you to get multiple shots to pick from. In the reference shots below, I placed a camcorder on a tripod at the top of the stairs. The video is only about 40 seconds long. I just plugged it in the computer and grabbed what I thought would look right in the scene. Fast and easy.
